Founder's Note by Alison Jones

Hello, I'm Alison Jones, founder of Minds of Light. I'm autistic, a part of my identity that I embrace with pride. I am blessed with two incredible daughters and a granddaughter, all of whom share the autism spectrum with me. I also have a wonderful son, daughter-in-law, and two sons-in-law who enrich our family life.

Growing up autistic presented its challenges, mainly due to misunderstandings and societal stigmas surrounding autism, especially in adults. Many people are surprised when I share that I am autistic. I aim to shift this perception because autism isn't something visible; it's an intrinsic part of what makes each person unique.

Navigating life as an autistic individual, and later as a mother to autistic children, meant facing numerous hurdles alone—from mastering personal and professional life to starting a nonprofit. The journey underscored the need for understanding, mentorship, and a supportive community.

Minds of Light was born from a desire to create a sanctuary where autistic adults can connect, share experiences, mentor, and support one another. Our mission is to affirm that being autistic is a mark of uniqueness, not a deficit. We strive for inclusion, seeking to participate fully in the world and to foster mutual understanding

As an autistic parent, I've faced many challenges, but these experiences are a significant source of pride and strength. Today, my goal is to ensure that other autistic individuals and parents receive the support and resources they need to thrive.

Working with and for the autistic community brings me immense joy. Witnessing personal growth and change within our community is profoundly fulfilling. At Minds of Light, we celebrate our identities and demonstrate to the world the incredible potential we hold.
